Thank you for your lovely feedback since our last encounter, we read as many messages as possible on all platforms. We truly appreciate you going out your way to message us such nice things. Along with appreciation, we received many messages regarding our choice of brand name - and we would love to answer here! VISION is all linked with eyesight and the act of watching. Originally, shorts videos called films were short, slow moving stock animation with no sound. Consequently, we at VISION believed by always linking todays film industry to the birth of film brought most significance, and will always remind us where our passion originated.

More exciting news - we have partnered with Shelter for this months edition! Shelter have vital, life-saving work working on the streets up and down the UK helping people escape poverty and gain solid grounding to begin news lives. We are thrilled to announce we will be donating 20% of all profits to Shelter this month. As a company, we at VISION the flamboyance and big-budget of the film industry needs to be acknowledged, and by partnering with Shelter we hope to help the hopeless and be viewed as a VISION for all.

This months will hopefully be providing some escapism in our world which is currently full of destruction and anger. By giving recommendations and learning about the industry, we hope to gift you an insight into this glorious world!

Possible 2nd Cover

These are two possible front covers for my magazine second front cover. I really like both covers. I like the first one because her face is stunning - shining in the limelight. Although I prefer the stance of the second and believes this show her off best.

Front Cover 1 - Editing

I am pleased with my first mock up especially considering my photoshop skills this time last year. I believe my magazine shows many magazine conventions. The cover price, masthead, issue number, anchor etc. My only concerns would be not hitting the brief of the 'upmarket audience' as the colours and style may not be reflective. I have utilised Barthes semiotics theory through the red lighting and some red wording to highlight the horror theme on this front cover as this issue is released at the start of autumn season so people will be craving Halloween and cosy movies.

Second Photoshoot

These photos are what i would consider the ‘best’ from my first photoshoot. I utilised a bike light to give a red hue and used black dress gloves to show the theme of ‘captured’ which creates the enigma which is what i want to achieve. What I like about the first: The backround, the centring. What I like about the second: The direct address, the emotion. What I like about the third: The position, utilising the foreground and middle ground and the direct address.

First Photoshoot

Ajuni- my model looked stunning for this shoot. I really like all the photos but all for different reasons. I really like the positioning and the way the dress flares out. The second i love the angle and the was the dress flares out. However for both these photos she looks tired and i feel like we could have gotten better shots. For the last photo i love the way she looks.

Generic Research- Case Study- Sight and Sound

 Who Are Sight And Sound?

Sight and Sound is the BFI’s internationally renowned film magazine, championing and appraising the art of cinema and TV from around the world. They have been publishing film comment since 1932 and provide an unrivalled platform for film lovers to connect with the best movie writers in the English language.

Their monthly magazine – the heart of our work, in print since 1932 – is available in print and digital formats. All their subscription packages include free access to nine decades of journalism in our online archive.

Platforms

Sight And Sound offers a range of different platforms for avid fans to interact and buy their product. They have their website connected to The BFI- British Film Institute- who owns them, they then have their actual physical print copy as well as their newer offering of the copy but online to appeal to their younger, technology-smart audience.

They also have their social media platforms which generate a greater audience. They allow a closer knit audience which are kept up to date with exclusive stories and announcements.

Noticeable Parts Of Website

This screenshot from Sight And Sound website (a company which promotes music and film) of whom has a younger age demographic: I believe this would be beneficial link to have at targeting the younger audiences, since readers of this and my own magazine are film enthusiasts and adore something good to watch, old vintage films which they might not have considered or even heard of, and have already been approved would be a good alternative when struggling at choosing something to watch and therefore would encourage them to click the 'read more' link or read that article in the magazine. Consequently having this link within a magazine or to an attached website would be great at targeting the younger '16-25' age generation.

This screenshot is from the homepage of Sight And Sound website. The opening story is this- the promotion of their latest issue, with the main stories advertised as well to intrigue the reader. I definitely wish to do this on my website to promote my own brand and issue. It links all platform together very well.

Generic Research- Case Study- Empire

 Who are they?

"Empire Online is the official digital destination of the world’s biggest movie magazine – with the very latest film news, decades of movie reviews, and topical discussions of the biggest talking points in the world of cinema.

From genre-centric lists of the greatest films ever made, to the very latest Marvel and DC updates, to comprehensive guides on the most exciting future movies, Empire Online has everything you need to keep up with the very latest goings-on in Hollywood and beyond.

Not only that, but you’ll find exclusive interviews with directors and movie stars, spoiler-filled breakdowns of the latest blockbusters, every episode of the Empire Podcast, plus video game reviews, and TV reviews from Pilot TV – the cinematic TV magazine from the creators of Empire."

Front Cover Analysis:

Empire magazine front covers are very diverse and each are very unique. I chose these two to have a closer look at as these are what I believe are achievable as a student. The majority of Empire's magazines front covers depict action movies which take a lot of editing. However, there are not many obvious constants, except from the masthead, date and barcode. The main image is alway positioned so that the features of the copy can be scattered around it. Looking at the front covers, I think it is suggestible that the look and positioning of the copy aren't decide until they have their belief of what their main image will look like.

Online Presence:

Here is the opening page of empire, these are the subheadings of all the areas that are accessible. The image from their website shows all the different areas. It shows their horizontal and vertical integration and how successful they are as a company. It highlight how they attract their 18-40, primarily male, employed, educated audience. The vast and varied article as well as this additional features epitomises why they are successful as they know how to attract wider audiences and encourage them to spend more and keep coming back.

For a mobile, this is the opening home page on empireonline.com. It immediately links to film with an iconic scene from mission impossible. The opening stories include a trailer tease, empire exclusive- screening and Q&A event and also promotion of their VIP experiences.
Their website almost acts as a news website with recent articles being published and released onto their homepage. It highlights how their stories and homepage are always changing and bolsters how this website is full of exclusive stories- engaging the reader to always come back as there will be something new.
To attract a younger audience I believe this is extremely important as exclusivity is pried upon, especially with film enthusiasts, consequently having this on a website (something where the demographic will be younger as younger people are more likely to be online) it will be extremely powerful and useful at attracting my target audience.

This is a screen shot from the Empire magazine Instagram page. Its bio is quick to inform us what the brand is, as well as showing humour which is always important to show individuality and to engage the younger, less uptight audience. It has huge access to empires posts and allows audiences to definitely find something that they would enjoy reading, therefore the website link is perfectly placed as, viewers of this page have immediate access to more content by empire.
